June VMUG Meeting – Re-Cap

Thank you everyone who came out to the first Manitoba VMUG meeting last week, the feed back I have received has been very positive.

For those of you who didn’t make it out, here is a brief recap of the evening and copies of the slide decks that were shown.

We started the evening with everyone introducing themselves and giving a brief description of their environment. We had 19 people out and environments ranging from 1 VMware host to 40+ hosts in multiple data centres. The group was split almost 50/50 between “smaller environments” with 3 or less hosts and “large environments” of 4 or more hosts.

I then did the customer presentation based on Westco’s environment. Although our environment is not complex, I outlined our path to VMware (why we went to virtualization), where we currently are, and where we hope to go in the near future.

Then Norm Erlenson (Sr. Systems Engineer with VMware) gave a brief but jam packed overview of what VMware has been up to over the past few months with the companies they have acquired and some of the products that are currently available.

During the Q&A period covered a wide range of topics from “are you ready to move to a hybrid cloud” to features / bugs in the current version of VMware (migrating from Intel to AMD, etc…)

To finish the night we drew for prizes with the big winners being the people who won the 1 Year Subscription to VMUG Advantage and the 3 people who won the VMware based TrainSignal DVD’s, but everyone walked away with something even if it was just an “I (heart) VMware” bumper sticker 

Big thanks to everyone who came out and I look forward to seeing even more of you out for our September meeting.

Thanks again,
Mike
